Donna asks…

what is the difference between a honda crv and a honda hrv?

many thanks to people who answer this question

Administrator answers:

The CRV is the bigger proper 4×4 with an engine size starting at a 2.0ltr petrol going upto a 2.2ltr diesel http://www.casanovacars.com/2007/03/15/Honda%20CR-V%20Aero%20Pack%201.jpg
The HRV comes in 2 or 4 wheel drive and is more for taking the kids to school it only came in a 1.6ltr petrol engine http://www.resimler.tv/data/media/315/Honda-HRV.jpg

Hi – We have a Honda HRV. How can we tell if it has a VTEC? Engine number starts with D16W… Thanks.

Honda takes pride in their technologies. Vtec will be written somewhere on the engine or cover. If it has it, it will say it.

Steven asks…

Is 130,000 kilometers for used HONDA HRV year 2001 still very good?

Private seller and it comes with full service history. For the price of AU$11,000. Not sure about the stamp duty, warranty and registration fees. My concern is the odometer. Thank you.

Administrator answers:

This is my 2 cents advice and I hope I hit a target. First check the Blue Book and see about the Prices. Second it is 6 years old car and the owner used about 20,000 plus miles a year and do go to a mechanic for total car check first and then you can buy a car.
By the way, you need to find out Stamp duty, warranty, and registration fee.You can call and find out about odometer from the Government registration. I am a Californian so we go to DMV web site to find out about the odometer and the car’s history. Then you can analyze your future car better. Good luck and I wish you well.

Joseph asks…

How can I tell if my 2001 Honda HRV has a CVT transmission?

Administrator answers:

I’m sure there are ways of looking up this model and seeing if it was available. But I’m not sure if Honda even had a CVT transmission in 2001, it’s relatively new to cars.

But one way to tell would be to just listen to it as you drive around. CVT stands for ‘continuously variable transmission’ which means there aren’t ‘gears’ to switch through like a normal car. As you accelerate with a standard automatic car you can hear the engine rev up, then drop down as it switches into a higher gear. A stick shift car, you change gears yourself.

A continuously variable transmission doesn’t have distinct ‘gear’s and is infinitely adjustable within it’s range. Meaning it will rev up to it’s most efficient for how you are driving at that given time. You won’t hear it rev up and drop down so abruptly and the response will be smoother. You’d notice most easily if you accelerate quickly from a dead stop up to about 60 mph. Any normal automatic transmission would switch gears and you’d hear the drop in engine revs and maybe even feel a little lurch. The CVT will have a smoother sounding engine noise and there should be no lurch.
